Touch is one of the most direct forms of interaction between people. To touch gives a sense of material connection, a confirmation of presence – tangibility-. For years, the use of devices via touch screens has become commonplace. These devices are interchangeable mass products that offer touch as a clean and fleeting event that leaves no contact trace: touch is thus reduced to a practical form of input.
“Between Monsters and White Collar Criminals” makes the tactile relationship between user and device, explicit: fingerprints and greace on the display. By means of a fingerprinting powder and a UV lamp the fat shadow of the touch is made visible, scanned and translated into a digital model. This is then printed three-dimensionally on the front side of the smartphone sleeve and thus reveals a moment of the hidden relationship between user and device.
